Abstract
This paper presents an experimental comparison of different switching functions for reduced-order sliding mode observers (ROSMO) for sensorless control of surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SMPMSM). In ROSMO, a signum function is used to calculate feedback signals for the observer. Due to the chattering phenomenon and switching frequency limitations, the signum function can be substituted by the saturation function or by the sigmoid function. A comparative study of these functions is shown in the paper and their performance is evaluated by experimental verification.
