Abstract

With the arrival of radio access technologies, which provide greater data transmission rates for mobile users, the capability of transmission links has also experienced significative growth. This in turn triggers the need to estimate links utilization in order to do proper mobile-operator network planning. This study lays out a mathematical formula, based on the characterization of a 4G base station in a normal distribution, to calculate the maximum throughput of one transmission link which, as we will see, depends on the number of elements and average and peak throughput of the system. Finally, the results of the comparison between the proposed formula and experimental throughput have a mean absolute percent error of 11 % to 4% depending on the number of nodes.
