Self-Complementary Antenna with Multi-Resonance Frequency Based on Fibonacci Sequence for UWB Applications 基于斐波那契序列的多共振频率自互补天线在超宽带中的应用

In this paper we present the design and simulation of a self-complementary (SCA)Ultra-Wideband (UWB)antenna. The basic structure of this antenna uses the Fibonacci sequence in the construction of a golden spiral in the first iteration and six hexagonal monopoles are strategically placed in the midpoints of the spiral to maintain the sequence. In addition, the microstrip feed line is partial expanded to implement a notch filter for acquiring ultra-wideband features. The self-complementary sequence engraved in the ground plane allows the smooth current distribution in the radiating patch and the multiple resonant frequencies. In the other hand, the composition and the structure of the proposed antenna guarantees the coexistence of the UWB and WLAN (5.15-5.825 GHz)technologies. The optimized dimensions for this antenna are 30 mm⨯23.3775 mm, with a bandwidth of 2.63 to 11.2 GHz with multiple resonant frequencies at 2.7-3.41-4.14-4.94-6.82-7.98-8.42-9-9.91-10.45 GHz with a VSWR <2 over the entire frequency range except for the rejected frequencies. The compact antenna has a quasi-omnidirectional radiation pattern with suitable input impedance and return loss less than −10dB over the UWB range, these features offer several applications within the telecommunications area.

Infrastructure Costs in Dynamic Optical Networks 动态光网络中的基础设施成本

In this paper a cost model for the evaluation of the infrastructure costs of dynamic optical networks is provided. For an expected traffic demand, the cost model uses a bottom-up approach for the dimensioning of transponders and optical nodes, namely, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADM). The infrastructure costs are calculated as the sum of the costs of ROADMs, transponders and optical amplifiers. The approach is applied to the calculation of the network costs for two ROADM implementations, namely, colorless and colorless & directionless. For selected network topologies, the results show that the lowest costs are obtained by colorless ROADMs. However, by this solution the network cannot automatically reroute traffic in case of link failures. This is overcome by adding the directionless property to colorless ROADMs. Although the resulting solution is more costly, it allows efficient utilization of network resources. In fact, a colorless & directionless network reduces the number of transponders needed to serve an expected traffic demand.

Performance of Multiple-Site Diversity and Its Relationship with Time Diversity in Tropical Regions 热带地区多站点多样性表现及其与时间多样性的关系

Satellite communications rely on frequency bands higher than 10 GHz to operate and achieve larger capacities needed for modern multimedia services. These systems are subject to signal attenuation due to several atmospheric factors, including rain along the propagation path. Therefore, heavy rainfall tropical regions are affected by a potential increase of system outage probability. On the other side, Multiple-Site Diversity technique appears as a well-known countermeasure that could be applied to mitigate signal degradation in these particular cases. In this work, the performance of Site Diversity in tropical regions is statistically evaluated through simulations derived from the application of Satellite Synthetic Storm Technique (S-SST)to estimate attenuation along the satellite propagation path. The results show important improvements in terms of the reduction in the overall signal attenuation of the system. Finally, the Site Diversity is compared with Time Diversity, other important technique to mitigate satellite signal attenuation due to rain; as a result the storm velocity was assessed and validated.

Predictive Tool for Planning the Scaling and Interference of Wireless Sensor Networks 用于规划无线传感器网络规模和干扰的预测工具

The Internet of Things has introduced a new era of devices capable of sensing different parameters from an environment. Unfortunately, these sensors use multiple standards and are not always designed to work together in a Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN). We studied various applications of the combination of these devices to try and establish an ideal environment which reduces interference and improves data delivery reliability. In this paper we propose a graphical network simulator capable of scaling multiple scenarios, which was tested with a real environment, simulating a WBAN, using five nodes in a ZigBee network where one of them acted as the coordinator and with an approximate overall error rate of ±13.5% in performance metrics such as Packet Delivery Ratio, Link Quality Indicator and Received Signal Strength Indication. Finally, we were able to extrapolate the number of nodes to predict the scalability and the interference influence on a network.

Using SFP Data to Detect Contaminated Fiber Connectors 使用SFP数据检测受污染的光纤连接器

We explore the use of optical power measurement data from SFP optical transceivers for the detection of contaminated fiber connectors. Due to the accuracy limitations of this data we find that this data cannot be used to detect fingerprint oil. However, we have been able to detect dust and present a general detection rule to declare a fiber connector as contaminated with dust. We also develop a contamination score to express the severity of contamination. Lastly, our study provides deep insight into the accuracy limitations of SFP power measurement data.

Railways Networks - Challenges for IoT Underground Wireless Communications 铁路网络-物联网地下无线通信的挑战

The use of wireless network technologies for the deployment of data communications systems in railway transportation infrastructure and services is essential. In fact, wireless solution for railways, especially for underground, is a big challenge to operators concerning this environment particularities. Many technologies were pointed as promising candidates for the future railway mobile telecommunications but, in reality, no current technology features overall appropriated. This paper discusses a Practical Guidance based on challenges for IoT wireless networks, based on a conventional Wi-Fi network case study. Moreover, it also highlights topics where new intelligent networking technologies, emerging from Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, can contribute significantly to the improvement of railway networks.

An IoT-Based Smart Solution for Preventing Domestic CO and LPG Gas Accidents 基于物联网的家庭CO、LPG燃气事故预防智能解决方案

Gas monitoring systems have turned into a key feature in many applications in different fields, such as medicine, industry, and environmental monitoring. Accidents involving gas leakage generate massive costs and deaths, where carbon monoxide (CO) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are the main causes of domestic accidents. They could be avoidable with smart gas sensors integrated with other smart devices through the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm. This paper focuses on the design and construction of a smart multi-gas plug-and-play sensor to avoid accidents in smart environments involving CO and LPG. This device is ready to connect on an IoT solution. It uses the standard IEEE 802.15.4 to communicate with a border router responsible to make the data available to other devices. The data will be sent to a middleware granting that other smart devices on the same context can access the information and make the correct decisions. The created prototype was evaluated, demonstrated, and validated, and it is ready for use.

An Improved Envelope Tracking SOA Amplifier for CO-OFDM Transmission by Using PSO 基于PSO的CO-OFDM传输改进包络跟踪SOA放大器

Envelope tracking (ET) is a popular technique for improving the power efficiency and linearity of radio-frequency power amplifiers. In this paper, we investigate its use in a Coherent-Optical OFDM transmitter using a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) as a power booster. At a fixed bias current, such amplifier may lead to significant nonlinear effects, especially when the signal to be amplified has a non-constant envelope. Thanks to a bias current control scheme, an efficient linearization of the SOA can be achieved. It is shown that the bit error rate (BER) performance of a SOA-based CO-OFDM system can be largely improved by jointly tuning significant key parameters associated with the E T block. A particle swarm optimization (PSO) is applied for identifying the best operating conditions of the ET scheme, which is eventually combined with Peak to Average Power Ratio (P APR) reduction via nonlinear companding. Three distinct scenarios are proposed depending on the tuned parameters. An improvement of up to 8 dB is achieved at a BER of 10–3, for a 5 Gb/s QAM/CO-OFDM transmission.

We introduce the ClubBT protocol which is intended to be used for content distribution in wireless ad-hoc social networks. This protocol combines some functions of BitTorrent with knowledge regarding social relationships that is inferred from social networks. The peer selection strategy, used by ClubBT to share content, is to give priority to the nodes that connect the largest number of friend nodes. We show that this strategy reduces the downloading time not only for friend nodes, but also for stranger nodes.

Performance of DSR Algorithm in VANETs DSR算法在VANETs中的性能

Due to the low cost and wide availability of some mobile communication devices, wireless networks, such as Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), can be built easily, affordable, and without the need of a physical infrastructure in a variety of scenarios and applications. For instance, when connecting vehicles on a road, these networks are called Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs). The aim of this paper is to evaluate the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR)algorithm for VANETs. This study highlights the conditions necessary for packet transmission to devices that are not directly connected. Also, it is considered a scenario with distributed devices on a two-lane road, the use and the best disposition of relay poles, the required radio setting, and the use of different channels to increase network throughput. In addition, the shadowing propagation model is used. Index Terms-ad hoc, routing, DSR.
