Abstract

Recently, research on medium access control(MAC) protocol with sinks and mobile sensor nodes is done actively. In wireless sensor networks(WSNs), performance on energy efficiency is important because sensor nodes have limited energy resources and any kind of operation failure of sensors might disrupt the entire network. 3-dimensional group management MAC(3-D GM-MAC) is a MAC protocol designed for 3-dimensional wireless mobile sensor networks. In this paper, we have proposed an updated version of 3-D GM-MAC with some fixed sensor nodes. Also, we have shown that the proposed scheme improves the stability of WSN by sending and receiving guaranteed information to/from sensor nodes. With the computer simulation results, the proposed scheme achieves about 43.4% reduction in a group number resetting compared to that of the original 3-D GM-MAC, and increases the whole life time of the network about 10% more than the original one.
