Abstract
Mutual coupling of the antenna element always degenerates the performance of array antennas. The analysis of this effect using a conventional method of moments leads to a huge number of basis functions and unknowns, respectively. The mutual impedance formula between patch antennas based on synthetic asymptote and variable separation is applied to take into account the parasitic element effects through an element by element method of mutual impedance correction. This method can successfully predict the performance of the finite array as well as greatly reduce the computer time and memory usage especially in the optimization of the finite array.
