A method to estimate the current distribution by measuring the near-field distribution has been proposed and applied to the Yagi-Uda antenna. The optimum parameters to scan the near field, such as the positions for measuring the near field, the area of scanning plane, and the number of measuring points for near field measurement have been determined by using the condition number. Numerically estimated results are presented and compared with the real data, confirming the validity of the method.

One of the major sources of radiated EMI is attributed to power bus resonance in a printed circuit board (PCB). A fast algorithm, combined with the segmentation method, is applied for calculating resonance characteristics of a power bus whose pattern consists of several segments of rectangles and/or right-angled triangles. Good agreement between the calculated and measured results demonstrates the usefulness and accuracy of the fast algorithm and the segmentation method.

The potential implementation of wireless radio local area networks and personal communication services inside buildings requires a thorough understanding of signal propagation in a building. In this paper in-building penetration loss measurements, at 2.4 GHz. (the ISM band) have been presented for materials used in indoor environments. To obtain the data, measurements were performed at 160 MHz bandwidth centered on 2.4 GHz using a vector network analyzer. These measurements may aid in the development of future in-building wireless networks in this band.

Bluetooth is a short-range radio link intended to replace cables connecting portable and/or fixed electronic devices. Its main features are robustness, low complexity, low power consumption and low cost. For instance, Bluetooth can be used in the communication between mobile devices or mobile devices and static devices. In this paper, we discuss the anti-disturbance performance of the Bluetooth technology. We design the experiments with applied Bluetooth system and analysis its anti-disturbance performance.

Although there are some international or national standards which recommend measurement method of electromagnetic fields for safety purposes, few of them provide a detailed measurement procedure specifically for base stations. Therefore, we propose a practical measurement procedure to the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) in Taiwan for measuring electromagnetic radiation from AM, FM, TV and mobile telephone base stations. In this paper, we present the new proposed measurement method, which is suitable for most of the practical situations.

The numerical inversion of the Laplace transform (NILT) with Pade approximation has been used as an important tool for time domain analysis of conducted EMI coupling paths modeled by transmission line (MTL) networks. In this paper a new NILT based on Haar wavelets theory is presented for the analysis of coupled unequal length transmission line with arbitrary linear terminals and interconnecting networks. The method, which uses an operational matrix derived from the Haar wavelets theory to evaluate the image of the Laplace transform, is more accurate than previous techniques based on the Pade approximation. Two numerical examples of unequal length MTL networks are demonstrated to verify the method validity.

To analyze the scattering properties of slits on single or stacked metal plates of finite thickness, a three-wave FDTD approach is applied. By using this scheme, we calculate the magnetic surface currents on both sides of a slit on a thick plate and the transmission cross sections of slits on single or thick plates. The numerical examples are given to demonstrate the accuracy of the method. In addition, we observe that the shift of the two slits and the inserted dielectric between the two plates can change the shielding effectiveness. This algorithm is also available for analyzing the scattering and transmission of slits with different shape, location and dielectric media filled on multiple metal plates.

To evaluate radiated immunity/susceptibility characteristics for the chassis of an electronics-product with complex configuration, the authors have already proposed a new test method using an electromagnetic field whose polarization rotates slowly. By using this method, three-dimensional characteristics were depicted such that weak/strong directions against various field polarizations could be obtained easily. In this paper, as an application of this method, a tower-type personal computer chassis is considered and its three dimensional characteristics are obtained. It should be mentioned that it is very difficult to theoretically evaluate and/or estimate the above characteristics. Therefore, the proposed test method would be expected in a phase of developing products.

This paper presents a newly developed dielectric embedded and electronically steerable multiple beam (DE-ESMB) antenna and its applications in wireless communication system. The DE-ESMB antenna can be also used in a wireless computing system. DE-ESMB is a smart mobile terminal antenna using switching antenna technology and size reduction techniques. The significant performance of the DE-ESMB smart antenna has been achieved in terms of the size reduction and switched beamforming. The paper also discusses the optimal design techniques of using a high-performance computer to design the DE-ESMB antenna array.
