Abstract
This paper proposes a new bio-inspired Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) to solve the Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem considering valve point loading effect. The main inspiration of SSA is the swarming behavior of salps when navigating and foraging in oceans. The ability of salps to form a chain for achieving better locomotion using rapid coordinated changes and foraging has been successfully exploited in this paper to attain various objectives associated with ELD problems of power system. This algorithm has only one controlling parameter which is updated adaptively over the course of iterations for exploration and exploitation. To obtain the optimal solution, the proposed algorithm is validated on test systems consisting of 10 and 40 generating units.
