It is determined that in order to improve the quality of domestic education, one of the leading tasks of professional training of students is the formation of a competitive specialist, in particular, the formation of his foreign communicative competence. The process of learning a foreign language for students of non-language specialties is considered. It is noted that it has specific features and characteristics, namely: a certain lexical base, professional terminology, business correspondence, selection of communicative tasks, reading texts and listening tasks, based on the professional activities of students. It is proved that the effectiveness of foreign language teaching can be achieved if students are included in the process of active independent and creative learning activities. Students must be able to interact in accordance with their internal goals and needs, maintain their individuality, make responsible decisions. It is also important to give them a wide choice of different activities, from which they can choose the one closest to their abilities and talents. It is determined that the most productive and relevant methods of teaching a foreign language for professionals in non-language specialties are more communicative and problematic methods. Abstract
