Abstract

Measured longitudinal response functions for quasi‐elastic electron scattering from 12C, 40Ca and 238U have been integrated and the numerical results compared to the integral computed using a Fermi‐gas model for the nuclear momentum distribution. In all cases the measured integrals approach and may exceed the Fermi gas model prediction. While the transverse response functions for both isotopes of calcium and also uranium scale in the West‐Kawazoe ‘‘y’’ variable, the longitudinal response functions do not.
