Abstract
The assessment of trends in a given area can be considered as a projection for the future of a present situation resulting from an evolution in the past, analog to a problem of prediction in physics based on the estimation of first, second and third derivative. This exercise is a subjective one when, by analogy, the second and third derivatives are involved whereas main trends related to the first derivative are objectively perceived.
