Abstract

Five phase Induction Motor drive may be more suited as the electrical drive for propulsion and other emergency condition where safety and reliability are the most important criteria for choosing a drive. In this article five phase induction machine fed by SPWM inverter is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. SPWM (Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation) based inverter technique is used here to generate any number of phase voltage with proper firing angle. By using reference frame theory and the mmf (magnetomotive force) model of induction machine, both three phase and five phase induction motor is analyzed with respect to different parameters.
