AUTOMUTILAÇÃO E SAÚDE MENTAL DOS ADOLESCENTES

Abstract

: Self-mutilation and self-extermination constitute species of the self-destruction genre, which are situations in which the subject, usually, due to a psychic disorder, takes the initiative to attempt against his own life (self-extermination or suicide) or against his psychophysical integrity (self-injury or self-mutilation). This article intends to study the following problem: why the practice of self-mutilation in adolescents has occurred quite frequently among students, symptoms and what measures can help in the treatment? Many seek help and psychological treatment to restore their mental health, but others develop increasingly severe self-destructive tendencies. It is concluded that psychological assistance can be very important in the treatment, and the role of the family in terms of monitoring and supporting these adolescents is fundamental.
