The basis of the research are the studies of numerous Russian and foreign scholars. Analyzing English Maritime Law terms from the point of view of etymology the author makes an attempt to single out the most recurrent categories of borrowed terms. Maritime law dictionaries and glossaries as well as dictionaries of marine and navigation terms have been chosen as the material for the research. The methods chosen by the author include the statistical, descriptive and comparative one. The research has allowed to single out the most recurrent categories of borrowed terms of English Maritime Law and to calculate their percentage in the given terminology. The theoretical significance of the article consists in the possibility to compare and estimate the influence of various European languages on English in different epochs. Abstract

The aim of the article is to analyze English Maritime Law terms from the point of view of their etymology. The basis of the research are the studies of numerous Russian and foreign scholars.
