Abstract

Textbooks are support materials for the training of young people who are attending basic education, commonly used in Brazil, in some cases, they can be the only resource available to teachers and students. In this study, the objective was to qualitatively analyze the contents about the themes that govern Environmental Education, in the textbooks of the Natural Sciences curricular component, in Elementary School II, aiming to discuss the ways that the authors of the works approach these themes and the degree of relevance given to them. It is considered that the approach of Environmental Education in the classroom, based on the themes proposed by the textbooks, is insufficient to cause a significant impact on the formation of new citizens.
