Abstract

The article analyses the concept of punctuation competence as a component of future teachers-philologists’ professional and communicativecompetence. It identifies the basic punctuation skills that underlie punctuation competence. On the basis of generalization of modern tendencies to students’ language training, the essential stages of punctuation competence formation and its basic components are put forward and proved. Considering the innovative trends in the higher education system, we reveal the essence and content of language education approaches to improving the students’ punctuation competence.
