Abstract

This paper presents extensive experimental investigation of a Y-Inverter used in motor-drive applications. Efficiency is optimized by selecting different semiconductor technologies for the switches in the inverter and operating each of them at a different value of the switching frequency, as well as deploying continuous and discontinuous modulation strategies. Operation with air-core inductors is also demonstrated as a viable option. Finally, interleaved inverter implementation for increased power rating is also presented, using non-coupled inductors.
