Abstract

Purpose: Therapeutic hypothermia is used in neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) to mitigate neurologic damage due to asphyxia. Prior studies have shown that infants with more severe encephalopathy have lower heart rate variability, reflecting autonomic nervous system dysfunction.
