Abstract

Taking advantage of the opportunities that he offered to the Portuguese monarch - consignment of missionaries, study of the young ";Bakongos"; in Portugal, - Mvemba Zinga wanted to establish a network of teaching, susceptible to offer to the Kongo all indispensable expertises for the realization of his ambitious program. Nor the disappointments of Mbanza Kongo, nor the failure of the studies in Lisboa, nor the tragic disappearances of the youngsters sent to Portugal, didn't break the persistence of the Mani Kongo politics to succeed. Unfortunately, the lack of sufficient human resources, as also the divergence of interests between Lisboa and Mbanza Kongo, constituted enormous obstacles. If realized, this imposing program could have made of the former Kongo an intellectual and cultural radiance center in this region of the African continent. The Kongo just missed a big appointment with history.
