Among the important geological attributes of the small Cumbraes Basin in the southwestern off-shore Midland Valley of Scotland, the 4 km-long, fragmented but well-exposed section through the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary sequence in southern Great Cumbrae island ranks highly.
