This study purpose was to develop and verify the effectiveness a person-centered care education program based on the humanitude care method(HCM) to improve the care capacity of the dementia among social welfare college students. This study was a randomized controlled trial (RCT) before and after the experimental study and 45 social welfare college students participated. Researchers developed a Person-centered care education program based on a humanitude care method(320 hours) for the elderly with dementia to improve student’s verbal(empathy, person-centered communication) and non-verbal (person-centered attitude) dementia care capabilities. HCM was provided to the experimental group, and general dementia care education was provided to the control group. Paired T-test and independent sample t-test were conducted using the SPSS 24 statistical program to confirm the effect before and after the educational program. In the pre-post comparison within the group, in the case of the experimental group, empathy (t=-6.635, p=.000), person-centered communication (t=-4.961, p=.000), person-centered attitude (t=3.734, p=.000) showed a significant difference, but in the case of the comparison group, there was no significant difference. In the test of the difference between the two groups for the post hoc value, there was a significant difference in person-centered attitude (t=2.308, p=.026), but no significant difference in communication and empathy. Abstract
