To this end, patients were given dietary fiber (treatment group) or nondietary (control group) fiber enteral nutrition support after surgery, and the recovery time of bowel sounds, the time of first anal exhaustion, and defecation between the two groups were compared. After surgery, the recovery time of bowel sounds, the time of first anal exhaust and defecation in the treatment group were shorter than the control group (P < 0.05). Serum D-lactic acid, diamine oxidase, c-reactive protein, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, and procalcitonin levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). However, albumin, pre-albumin, and transferrin levels in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The occurrence of postoperative intestinal complications in the treatment group was lower relative to the control group (P < 0.05). The following is an example of some specific areas that may be of interest to the journal. i) Role of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients on cardiovascular health, cancer, diabetes, ocular health, mental health, men’s health, women’s health, infant nutrition, ii) Role of herbals on human health, iii) Dietary supplements and sleep, iv) Components of diet that may have beneficial effect on human health, v) regulation of apoptosis and cell viability, vi) Isolation and characterization of bioactive components from functional foods, vii) Nutritional genomics, and viii) Nutritional proteomics.
