Ponte - Sep 2023 - Volume 79 - Issue 9 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2023.9.3 Abstract:Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the interaction of the physical self-description, self-efficacy and perceptions of success with each other as a result of hip-hop style dance activities that are to be carried out regularly for female students who study at the university. Materials and Methods: The population of the study consists of İzmir province and its sample consists of 60 female students who study at universities in İzmir province and have not participated in hip-hop style dance activities regularly before. "Marsh Self-description Questionnaire (PSDQ)", "Dance Self-Efficacy Scale", "The Perception of Success Inventory-Adult Version (PSI-A)" scales are used for data collection. The necessary permissions for the measurement tools were obtained from the scale owners via electronic mail. Findings: When the pre-test and post-test results of the participants regarding the self-description scale were examined, a significant difference was found in the appearance, general physical efficacy and self-confidence sub-dimensions while no significant difference was found in the sports ability sub-dimension before and after the application. In the analysis of the participants’ perceptions of success, significant differences were determined in the sub-dimensions of task orientation and ego orientation before and after the application. In both sub-dimensions, the mean scores after the application increased. In the analysis of the dance self-efficacy of the participants, significant differences were determined before and after the application. Conclusion: It was concluded that regular hip hop dance activities positively affected the appearance, physical efficacy, self-confidence, dance self-efficacy and success goal orientations of the university students who participated in the studies.
