Online Teaching and Learning: A Conversation about Digitalisation

Abstract

It is generally agreed that the new technologies have brought about a dramatic change in the way work has been performed worldwide in recent years; therefore, adapting teaching/learning materials to the digital environment has become the norm. But what did this entail? Such questions might arise throughout this process: does face-to-face traditional teaching still find its place within the maritime classroom? what novelties does e-learning (as didactic method) bring to it? which digital methods to use? is there a discernable shift from instructor to facilitator of instructional activities?, etc. This paper sets out to report on a close examination of the above-mentioned issues that the field of teaching/learning maritime/naval terminology in English is currently facing, as presented and discussed during a webinar related to this key topic.
