The basic prerequisites for this were created by the founding of the Government Commissariat for the Preservation of Monuments, or its successor, the State Office for Heritage Protection, which encompassed the organisation of museums in Slovakia. Abstract
Slovak museums began to form mainly in the 2nd half of the 19th century and their development was only marginally connected with the development of heritage protection in the Kingdom of Hungary.
