Wind energy potential assessment: a case study in Central India

This research leverages Windographer to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the wind energy potential at the distinct site of Nagpur, located in India. The evaluation encompasses monthly average wind speeds, prevailing wind directions depicted through wind rose diagrams, and wind power density calculations, collectively determining the site's classification. In this study, Weibull parameters are derived using four distinct methods to estimate the probability distribution function. The average wind power density is found to be 13.63 W/m² and 71.08 W/m² at heights of 10m AGL and 100m AGL, respectively. Through wind turbine output analysis, numerous turbine models are assessed for suitability at the specified location. Remarkably, the Windtec DD 3000-125 model displays the highest capacity factor of 9.27%. The findings underscore a relatively modest wind potential in the examined area.
