Method: Based on the PRISMA statement’s guidelines, several 105 papers were selected. Results and Discussion: The most commonly used terms to describe this new approach are: \"physical literacy\", \"conceptual physical education\" and \"fitness education\". The main role of this knowledge-based approach is to complete the practical activity and not to replace it. To achieve this, the theoretical component of physical education provides the student with knowledge of concepts, principles and methods, essential for effectively managing physical activity.
