Based on legislation and translation practice analysis, the authors formulate purposes and objectives of court translation and interpreting, its features distinguishing it from other types of translation and interpreting activities, such as unequal social status of communicants, the forced nature of the communication and the lack of professionalism on one side. The authors propose specific ways to improve the quality of court translation and interpreting, provide a brief summary of their previous efforts towards institutionalizing court translation and creating a unified register of court translators and interpreters of the Russian Federation. Abstract
The article examines specific features of the communicative situation of court translation and interpreting in the context of the communicative-functional approach.
