Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Rumah Kaca 1 dan Laboratorium Ilmu dan Teknologi Benih Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Syiah Kuala, Darussalam Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini berlangsung dari bulan Januari sampai April 2023. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua faktor serta tiga ulangan. Faktor pertama yaitu jenis media tanam (M) yang terdiri atas empat taraf: M1 : Tanah; M2 : Tanah + arang sekam (1:1); M3 : Tanah + cocopeat (1:1); M4 : Tanah + arang sekam + cocopeat (1:1:1), dan Faktor kedua adalah jenis varietas (V) yang terdiri atas dua taraf: V1 : Arabika; V2 : Robusta. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan jenis media tanam terbaik dijumpai pada komposisi campuran tanah dengan arang sekam yang memberikan peningkatan terhadap viabilitas benih kopi bedasarkan parameter potensi tumbuh maksimum 80,83% dan indeks vigor 24,17%. Varietas robusta lebih baik jika dibandingkan dengan varietas arabika dalam upaya peningkatan viabilitas benih kopi berdasarkan parameter potensi tumbuh maksimum, daya berkecambah, keserempakan tumbuh, indeks vigor, berat basah kecambah normal dan berat kering kecambah normal.Kata kunci: Benih kopi, media tanam, viabilitasThe Effect of Type of Planting Media and Varieties on The Viability of Coffee Seeds (Coffea sp.)Abstract. This research aims to determine the effect of type of planting media and varieties on the viability of coffee seeds. This research was carried out in Greenhouse 1 and the Seed Science and Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University, Darussalam, Banda Aceh. This research took place from January to April 2023. This research used two factors and three replications. The first factor is the type of planting media (M) which consists of four levels: M1: Soil; M2: Soil + husk charcoal (1:1); M3: Soil + cocopeat (1:1); M4: Soil + husk charcoal + cocopeat (1:1:1), and the second factor is the type of variety (V) which consists of two levels: V1: Arabica; V2 : Robusta. The results of the research showed that the best type of planting media was found in the composition of a mixture of soil with husk charcoal which provided an increase in the viability of coffee seeds based on the parameters of maximum growth potential of 80.83% and vigor index of 24.17%.
