However, <i>P. copri</i> sometimes has adverse effects on host health, and it has been found to be positively correlated with inflammation, insulin resistance, and diarrhea. The interaction between <i>P. copri</i> and these diseases is influenced by the host's diet. The capacity of <i>P. copri</i> to metabolize dietary glycans, as well as the effects of its degradation products, such as short-chain fatty acids and succinic acid, appear to underlie its dual impact on the host. This duality suggests that manipulating the host's diet to increase the abundance of <i>P. copri</i> may be an effective strategy to improve disease outcomes.
