Abstract

Literary, cultural, and linguistic education is one of the key educational issues in the Polish education system, which undoubtedly has deep historical and national determinants. However, education in literacy techniques is not currently sufficient to develop individual, vocabulary-rich, and creative speech and writing. Language development is an expression of concern for an individual’s personality development, causing changes in all spheres of development of a child or a younger student. Live contact with literature and works of culture has an impact on social, civic, and patriotic development. Nowadays, children contact with culture, including literature. It has been heavily modified. The content that used to dominate books and magazines has been appropriated by the media. A multicultural Europe inspires children, their parents, and teachers to learn foreign languages. Language education in the 21st century has gained new contexts and interpretations. Language competencies include communicative competencies: linguistic, cultural, and social skills and general knowledge about the world. Learning one’s native language is a nationwide task and a manifestation of patriotism, which should be developed in multicultural Europe. It is necessary to form children’s motivation to communicate in their native language and to be multilingual, accordingly to use the natural inclinations of children and younger schoolchildren. Access to information and modern technologies prevents marginalization and social isolation. It has been found that the interest in reading among students is decreasing, which is influenced by digital media. To make the content more accessible to children and younger schoolchildren, interesting screen adaptations based on examples of well-known literature have been prepared. The forms of reading to children by adults are interesting.
