Abstract
Anna Akhmatova wrote works of various themes. She was the author of numerous poems and translations that were translated into many languages, including Polish. The poet’s work includes both reflective, subtle lyrics, as well as poems, historical works and memories, e.g., about Russian literary figures. For many years, her works were not published because she lived in times of harsh political repression and severe censorship. The aim of this paper is to present the life and work of the Russian poet and translator, a leading representative of modernism and Acmeism, with particular emphasis on Polish traces in her biography and works. The portraits of Akhmatova emerging from Polish literary culture and Akhmatova’s different perspectives on issues related to Poland are presented.
