It is shown that the main operability criterion for transmission gears of tractors and heavy-duty vehicles is deep contact fatigue of tooth surfaces. It is established that the procedure for calculating gear durability presented in GOST 21354–87 has significant errors, which results in significant uncertainty of the calculations. A procedure for calculating gear life expectancy that incorporates fatigue resistance of the tooth material and is based on the dependence of the limit of deep contact endurance on the hardness and structure of the hardened layer is proposed. Abstract
The article considers types of contact fatigue of vehicle transmission gears.
