Previous studies on airport sustainability have mainly focussed on airside areas; while literature pertaining to landside transport sustainability and emissions reduction approaches is limited. This paper addresses this gap by presenting a comprehensive review and critical assessment of the existing studies aiming to inform policymakers and researchers. Based on a holistic approach and an interdisciplinary perspective, the reviewed literature is classified into four categories: travel behaviour, transport infrastructure, transport policy, and sustainability. Within these categories, key findings are identified, along with a concise overview of the strategies employed by large airports to achieve their net-zero targets. Main solutions include increasing the attractiveness of public transport, providing electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and promoting low/zero emission vehicles.
