Abstract

A world of medieval shine, expanded in violent, animalistic, monstrous acts of the Self: this is how unveils the narrative of the prize-winning novel the remorse of baltazar serapiao (2006), by the Angolan writer Valter Hugo Mae. With an unmistakable style conducted by the refusal of capital letters and formal punctuation models, the author applies a dense, oral narrative, embedded with carnal, primitive senses of language. Monstrosity dominates the actions of the protagonist, baltazar, from the physical/psychological deconstruction of his lady up until the misogynist concept that trespasses the saga – as well as the tyranny of his father against his own mother. Indeed, a paradoxical “misogyny”, since the I-narrator does not destroy only the feminine, but the humanity code that conceives each one of the characters. Witches, Lords, and the dammed: all partners in the convulsive dance opposed to fertility and resistance of the Being.
