Abstract
Introduction: Class II malocclusion is often a reason for patients to seek orthodontic treatment. Malocclusion can also be caused by the retrognathic mandible, prognathic maxilla, or a combination of both. In addition, differences in the teeth’ size and the jaw arch can cause crowding due to lack of space. This difference is also one of the etiologies of ectopic canines, or teeth that erupt outside the jaw arch. A temporary Anchorage Device (TAD) is used in orthodontic treatment as an absolute anchor device with titanium alloy or stainless steel material. Some of the TAD advantages are ease of installation and removal and comfort received by the patient, mainly to provide absolute anchorage for tooth movement with lots of variety. This case report will discuss the management of orthodontic treatment in class II skeletal malocclusion with ectopic canines and severe crowding of teeth, using fixed orthodontic appliances MBT system with TAD. Case report: A 26-year-old female patient came to the Orthodontics Specialist Clinic of the University of Indonesia’s Dental Hospital with the chief complaint of dissatisfaction with the front teeth and inability to brush properly. From the clinical examination, the patient has a Class II malocclusion with an ectopic canine and severe crowding. Orthodontic treatment was performed using pre-adjusted brackets with MBT slot .022 system and TADs. Conclusion: The treatment result shows a more aesthetic smile and a normalized anterior tooth inclination and class I relationships of the incisive, canines, and molars.
