Open bite anteriore con agenesia dei secondi premolari inferiori: terapia estrattiva con utilizzo di attacchi autoleganti

Abstract

Objectives

To present a case of anterior open bite and the method used to treat it (closure of the open bite and the establishment of proper overbite and overjet relationships for improved function and esthetics).

Materials and methods

Extraction therapy is often a treatment option for patients with mild open bite. This report describes a 14.2-year-old girl with anterior open bite and crowding in both arches. Treatment consisted in the extraction of the maxillary first premolars and deciduous mandibular second molars (because the second premolars were congenitally missing).

Results and conclusions

This asymmetric extraction strategy produced the closure of the open bite (resulting in good anterior guidance), the alignment of the upper and lower arches, and a final symmetric and stable occlusion.
