Ever since Professor R.S. Sharma’s path-breaking monograph Indian Feudalism, c. 300-1200 was published in 1965, there have been phenomenal discussions on state and society in the pre-modem centuries in India. This volume edited by Professor Champakalakshmi et al., can be seen as an important input in the debate on this major concern of historians of the last four decades.
