Abstract
Commentaries on the translations of “Notes on discourse” by Ferdinand de Saussure in Brazil: elements for the reading of the “Note” This study seeks to comment on the two Brazilian translations of the Note on discourse , a manuscript by linguist Ferdinand de Saussure. The remarks are based on the comparison between the translations, seeking to highlight the different readings of the source text that each target text registers. From the point of view of the field of translation, the notion of retranslation is mobilized in two different perspectives (MESCHONNIC, 2010; BERMAN, 2017), as a way to expound the idea that Saussure’s translations in Brazil condense the interpretations that the author was given in the Brazilian context. From the linguistic point of view, the distinction between semiotic/semantic (BENVENISTE, 1989) is used to defend the idea that the translations seek to make explicit what Benveniste names the “intended” of discourse, in this case, of the Note on discourse .
