Abstract

The objective of this article is to determine who went to court against whom, how often, and concerning what disputes. The research for the article identified the number of mutual court cases in four rural municipalities in northern Estonia in the period from 1867 to 1891. Personal names found in rural municipal court records were identified to facilitate the article’s objective. The rural municipalities of Võnnu, Parila and Kiltsi in Ridala Parish and of Kirna in Türi Parish are examined in this study. Transcribed rural municipal court records in the rural municipal courts crowdsourcing app developed by the Estonian National Archives (http://www.ra.ee/vallakohtud/) are the basis for this discussion.
