Abstract

The paper focuses on the application of the Model Predictive Control (MPC) theory to a synchronous generator for the control of voltage and active power. The paper also proposes a comparison of the performances of the MPC controller against alternative model-base control approaches such as the FeedBack Linearization (FBL) and the Sliding Mode (SM) with the aim of giving a qualitative comparison among these techniques. The comparison is performed by means of dedicated simulations on a benchmark system, where the aforementioned approaches are also tested against a conventional PID based controller.
