Abstract

The experimental study was conducted to determine the impact of health education on the level of awareness on STI of Twenty (20) men who occasionally have sex with other men in Lucena city, who were purposively selected. Survey forms and questionnaires, and also pre-tests and post-tests in forms of Likert type were administered to gather data in the study. Findings revealed that the level of awareness of the respondents before the administration of the tool suggests unawareness regarding STI with a total weighted mean of 2.57. After the intervention, results showed a total weighted mean of 4.64 under the the category of Strongly Aware. It was concluded that the level of awareness of selected MSM in Lucena city has been improved and with this basis, a consciousness campaign should be reinforced to promulgate information regarding STI and HIV among MSM. It was recommended that the study be subjected to further quantitative analysis with more variables to be considered and that this study may serve as a basis for further and continuing researches in combating STI not only in Lucena city but also in the Philippines.
