Basic semantic characteristics can help us to form the core of the investigated image for the subsequent determination of additional semantic characteristics that appear at different language levels. The definitions were selected according to the materials of the most authoritative lexicographic issues, which include such explanatory dictionaries as the Oxford Dictionary of Current English, Collins Cobuild advances Learner's English Dictionary, Concise Oxford English Dictionary, Merriam Webster Dictionary.
