The expression "fairy-tale reality" is an oxymoron, because the idea that a fairy tale is something unrealistic, impossible and knowingly false has entrenched in the minds of people. A fairy tale in the form in which it exists today is a fantastic genre that modern writers combine with other genres and get new literary forms and plots. A series of novels by J. Rowling about Harry Potter, “The Lord of the Rings” by R. Tolkien, “Song of Ice and Fire” by J. Martin are modern bestsellers. No one believes in the reality of what is described in these books, but from this they do not lose popularity. The thing is that at the heart of storylines, characters and conflicts are archetypes and mythologies familiar to us from childhood. This once again proves people's interest in everything inexplicable.

The challenges of adaptation faced by international students of interpreting and translation at Astrakhan State University (ASU), which are aggravated by high academic standards, have been successfully overcome owing to a number of factors: the favourable geographic location of ASU, a unique combination of languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Persian (Farsi), Azeri, Kazakh, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese), highly-qualified teaching staff, advanced technologies, and uptodate equipment.

The article is devoted to the study of Leo Tolstoy’s diary of in the aspect of self-identification of his personality. The paper considers diary entries for 1907-1908. It is revealed that the diary was not a form of exclusively autocommunication, since the writer understood that the diary would have its own reader. The diary pays much attention to such aspects as self-esteem, self-identification. Self-identification refers to the process of self-analysis, the result of which is the categorization of one's personality in a coordinate system known to a person. The results of self-identification can be verbalized in various ways. Propositions that reflect these processes have the form I am X. Objectification of identification processes is implemented by different communication strategies, which are understood as a way to achieve the goals of communication. The communicative strategy is determined on the basis of the analysis of the communicative purpose of the utterance, as well as the linguistic means of its implementation. The paper identifies the following communicative strategies and their corresponding identification propositions: setting goals for self-improvement - I am an imperfect person; age identification - I am an old but happy person; self-deprecation - I am an insignificant person; identification with other people - I am the same as everyone else; attitude to God - I am part of God; relations with family members - I am a stranger in my family. Tolstoy's diaries are characterized by analyticism. The study of communicative strategies in the diary of Leo Tolstoy demonstrates their interrelation and determinism. The highlighted strategies reflect Tolstoy's desire for spiritual self-improvement and unity with God.

The article reveals the patterns of using inconsistent and consistent attribute in the structure of the Latin anatomical multi-word term and in its equivalents in other languages. In search of criteria for choosing one or another method of determination, processes of lexicalization of a complex term, semantic analysis of components of a multi-word term are considered, contrast analysis is carried out to compare the Latin term with its equivalents in other languages. On the basis of the analysis of the International Anatomical Terminology, cases of variability of the same term with consistent and inconsistent attribute are considered. Professional language usage is considered as one of the reasons for the rare interchangeability of consistent and inconsistent attribute denoting the same anatomical object. Based on the theory of psychosystematics, the author concludes that there is a difference in the semantic perception of variants of the two-word term with consistent and inconsistent attribute in connection with the different thought mechanism of the incident in the formation of the noun and adjective.

The article deals with the specifics of the functioning of two types of repetition - framing and chain repetition - in the discourse of well-known modern novelists L. Weisberger and M. Amis. The authors reveal expediency of the novelists' appeal to these types of repetition and the produced stylistic effect. It is noted that the repetition of lexical elements in the form of a ring or chain is an effective means of internal (logical) and external (pragmatic) coherence of the text.

The article discusses the development of the oriental plot in the poem by Lokhvitskaya «Gimn vozlyublennomu». The poem is a sample of the sophisticated lyrics of the poetess. Much attention is given to the central image of the poem - the eternally courageous «black-eyed prince» who is both real and surreal. Images of a distant eastern country, mysticism, the use of the motif of bliss make it possible to put the sensual world of the poetess's experiences in a space of oriental exoticism.

Theoretical issues of terminological actualization of technical knowledge, status and functional amplitude of technical terms are investigated. The evolutionary significance of technical terminological semiosis is noted: the emergence of more and more classes of technical terms contributes to the replenishment of the terminology fund of the national language and the language of science as a whole. The process of terminological actualization is determined, which is a cognitive-derivational activity to create a term; the plurality of interpretation of the concept "term" as a means of verbalizing technical knowledge is considered. The term "cluster" is introduced and substantiated as the nomination of the mega-complex of modern technical sciences; shows its substantive efficiency in comparison with the term "subject area".

The article is devoted to the study of the frequency and correlation of chronemes in the publicistic discourse of Ellen Barry. The importance of including data from linguo- cognitive science, cultural linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and other related disciplines is substantiated in order to study the relationship between the category of gender and discourse in modern linguistic science. The algorithm of linguistic modeling of representation in the publicistic discourse of the realities of the modern world is described in detail. A review of gender differences in the perception of time is carried out. The study of the use of chronemes in artistic discourse in the works of E. A. Ogneva, Yu. A. Kuzminykh, E. I. Guzhva, E. I. Buzina, D. A. Koptseva, I. A. Danilenko, as well as in publicistic discourse in the works of the author of the article (N. A. Trofimova) is performed. The necessity of correlation of the cognitive-hermeneutic method of studying markers of temporality and cognitive modeling is substantiated. As a result of the application of the cognitive hermeneutic method, in the articles of Ellen Barry various markers of temporality were identified. The specificity of their representation in the publicistic discourse of Ellen Barry has been established by means of the quantitative method of researching chronemes. The correlation of the vocabulary volume of the publicistic articles and the number of cronemes used on “The New York Times” was revealed. It is concluded that there is a partial correlation between the vocabulary volume of the analyzed articles and the concentration of markers of temporality of non- verbal communication.
