10mbps To 155mbps Atm Using The Idt Saram/supTM/ As A Concentrator Brouter Core
Datacom and Telecom bandwidth requirements have recently been increasing. Emerging technologies are driving the bandwidth requirements such as interactive television and uninterrupted conference calling. ATM is allowing for the increased bandwidth to become possible. Since ATM is a switching technology, the uninterrupted transfer of data, video and voice can be transferred and pieced back together without gaps introduced into the streams. Over time, current data formats will be converted to the ATM format initially starting with the backbone of the WANs, and soon implemented within the LANs. The LAN movement will require the lOMbps Ether-Net conversion to the 155Mbps ATM of the WANs which this paper demonstrates in the form of a Brouter. The Brouter allows for the concentration of multiple 10Mbps ports to the 155Mbps ATM port.
