Produção de carne em sistemas a pasto como estratégia para mitigação das mudanças climáticas
Agriculture was responsible for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil in 2021, where direct emissions from agriculture totaled approximately 601 million tons of CO2. Currently, 88% of cattle production in Brazil is on pasture, using vast systems, without much technology, in this production 190 million brazilian hectares are covered by pastures. There are several ways and strategies that can be used to reduce this emission, such as better balance of the diet and the offering of nutrients that compete with methanogenic bacteria for substrates. Intensification is also very important in the process of reducing gas emissions along with food supplementation, beside improvement in pasture management, increasing the carbon footprint and helping with the nitrogen cycle and benefiting beneficially from gases. The improvement of zootechnical indexes is also able to dilute the total emissions of the herd resulting in a lower rate between methane/product unit ratio. Through a literature review, it was found that with the intensification of production in general, manages to reduce the emission of methane by livestock.
