A Perception on Integrated Medicine Management System by Healthcare Professionals
A number of deaths from medical errors occur every year. Medicine management can significantly reduce medical errors as it is a scientific proof-based approach to prescribe and manage the patient's medicines to protect the safety, tolerability, and potential of the medication. It helps practitioners to achieve the optimum use of medicines for a patient and optimizes the treatment's benefits that offer and accomplish the best results for each patient. The espousal rate of Health Information System (HIS) in Malaysian public hospital are very low, and the current implemented HIS are not integrated. After analyzing the current HIS, this study has proposed an Integrated Medicine Management System (IMMS) to optimize the Malaysian HIS. IMMS enables the healthcare professional to prescribe the medicine while prescribing if IMMS finds any medicine-related issue i.e. drug-drug interaction, drug-disease interaction, inappropriate drug-dosage according to patient type IMMS will show the alert on the prescriber's screen. In case of no issue in prescription, it will save as patient medication history and will show on the pharmacy's screen as a medication order with cautions, side effects, and the location where the prescribed medicine is located in the pharmacy. IMMS provides the centralization of patient data it enables the facility of integration of healthcare centers nationwide. So, the proposed system can help to optimize the Malaysian HIS. The proposed system is evaluated with a survey 95% of respondents (healthcare professionals) are agree that the IMMS is helpful to decrease the possibility of medicine errors.
