Managing solid plastic to achieve the Egyptian sustainable development goals
: Egypt faces significant challenges related to solid waste management. The country generates an estimated 80,000 tons of solid waste daily, with only around 60% of this waste collected and disposed of properly. The remaining 40% of waste is either burned, dumped in open spaces, or ends up in water bodies. Inadequate solid waste management practices have significant environmental and public health impacts. Burning waste contributes to air pollution and respiratory diseases, while dumping waste in open spaces contaminates soil and water sources. In addition, uncollected waste in cities and rural areas attracts pests and can cause diseases. This research aims to shed light on the role of solid plastic waste management in achieving sustainable development goals in Egypt during the year 2023. This research follows inductive approach through reviewing previous studies in solid plastic concerning and the concept of sustainability; successful countries in recycling solid waste;
