We also sought to elucidate the association between fasting blood data, including fasting lipid profile, and physical characteristics with the amount of sugar consumed in young adult Japanese women. Results: The ratio of sugar from confectioneries and sugar-sweetened beverages to all meals consumed daily in the HSG (55.9 ± 10.4%) was higher compared when compared with those in the LSG (27.3 ± 17.6%). Additionally, 62% of all subjects in this study consumed sugar amounts higher than the recommended 10% of their daily total energy intake. Discussion: The amount of sugar contained in seasonings can be high in daily dietary habit in Japan, and the total sugar intake per day is high even if the sugar intake from confectioneries and sugar-sweetened beverages is moderate. The lack of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibers can cause qualitative malnutrition.
