These diseases share common early biochemical pathways that contribute to tissue damage. This manuscript also systematically compiles potential shared cellular mechanisms between T2D and PD and discusses the literature on the utilization of antidiabetic drugs as potential therapeutic options for PD. This review encompasses studies investigating the experimental and clinical efficacy of antidiabetic drugs in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, along with the proposed mechanisms of action.
