The data presented by Norris and colleagues point toward a disconnect between the academic oncology landscape, focused on expensive drugs with marginal benefits, and everyday practice in which even essential interventions may not be available. Ensuring the accessibility to proven, essential medicines should be as relevant as innovation to improve patient outcomes and create a more sustainable healthcare system.
